Moza lets you manage money your way. Instead of forcing you into one budgeting philosophy, we support two distinct styles:
- Flexible Planning (awareness-first monthly limits)
- Allocation Planning (envelope-inspired funding)
Switching styles is a simple preference toggle in Workspace Settings → Budgeting. Because both styles share your accounts, transactions, and categories, you can toggle between them instantly with zero data loss, zero database migration, and no recreate needed.
How it works
Comparison at a Glance
- Flexible Planning: Best if you want high-level awareness. You set a Planned limit for each category, and Moza tracks your Spent variance and projected end-of-month cash. Unused limits reset each month (no rollovers).
- Allocation Planning: Best if you want active control (zero-based budgeting). You assign cash to category envelopes (Assigned) from your Ready to Assign balance. Your spending reduces the envelope's Available balance, which rolls over automatically into the next month.
- Switch Styles Instantly: Reuses all existing data. Toggling styles only changes how your planning numbers are presented and how Moza AI interacts with them.

Limitations
- You can only select one active style per workspace.
- Collaborative workspace members see the style chosen by the owner/admin.
Common Questions
Which style should I choose?
Choose Flexible Planning if you want simple, low-effort awareness. Choose Allocation Planning if you want active, intentional control over where every dollar goes.
Does switching styles delete my budgets?
No. Toggling styles only changes the visualization. Your transaction ledger, accounts, and categories remain completely untouched.
