How it works
What is Reconciliation?
Reconciliation is the gold standard of financial bookkeeping. It compares your Moza ledger line-by-line against your official bank statement to ensure every transaction and balance match perfectly.
When you finish a reconciliation, Moza creates an immutable accounting checkpoint. Reconciled transactions receive a unified Lucide Check icon badge (✓) within the transaction status cluster, confirming your financial data has been verified against official bank records.
Why Reconcile Regularly?
- Catch Errors Early: Instantly flag duplicate charges, missing transactions, unrecorded bank fees, or typos before they skew your budgets.
- Prevent Cascade Drift: Locking past statement periods isolates finalized data so you never have to re-audit old transactions when troubleshooting a balance mismatch.
- 100% Trusted Budgets: Knowing your cash and credit balances match your bank to the penny gives you total confidence when allocating funds to your goals and budgets.
Two Ways to Reconcile in Moza
Moza provides two reconciliation workflows designed for speed and flexibility:
1. AI Bank Statement Import (Recommended)
Upload your official bank statement in CSV, OFX, QFX, or QBO format.
- AI Parsing: Moza reads statement rows automatically and matches them against your ledger.
- Previously Reconciled Statement Detection: If a statement transaction matches an entry already included in a prior checkpoint, Moza automatically classifies it as
Already Reconciledand places it cleanly in the collapsed audit trail. - Dynamic AI Credit Gating: Statement import uses centralized AI Settings credits (
✨ cost). Insufficient credit alerts block imports when credits are low while keeping manual reconciliation 100% accessible.
2. Manual Line-by-Line Reconciliation
- Always available and 100% free with zero AI credit cost.
- Select candidate ledger transactions manually and verify against your printed or online statement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I click the Check icon on a reconciled transaction?
Clicking the Check icon badge opens a clean popover card displaying ● Verified & Reconciled and the checkpoint date. It isolates click events so the transaction details pane behind it doesn't open.
What happens if I edit a reconciled transaction?
If you edit an accounting-critical field (amount, account, date, direction, or deletion) on a reconciled transaction, Moza automatically clears its reconciled status to preserve audit integrity. Non-accounting edits (notes, tags, merchant display) remain verified.
Can I reconcile if I run out of AI credits?
Yes! Manual Reconciliation is always 100% accessible with zero credit cost, allowing you to reconcile your accounts at any time.
Does reconciling change my account balance?
No. Reconciling verifies and locks your existing transactions against your bank statement. It does not alter your ledger balance unless you explicitly create an adjustment transaction for an unresolved discrepancy.
